Nathaniel Winslow

Sergeant Major, 78^th Winnipeg Grenadiers

Nathaniel Winslow was a student at Alleyn’s until 1896 and moved to Canada shortly after leaving school. When the First World War broke out in August 1914, he was still living abroad and decided to join the war effort as part of the newly established Canadian Expeditionary Force. After being found fit for service, he joined the 78^th Winnipeg Grenadiers and was sent for service overseas on the Western Front. His brother, Benjamin, was also serving on the Western Front at this time as part of the London Regiment (City of London Rifles). In 1917, Nathaniel was serving in Northern France during the time of the Battle of Arras when he was wounded in action at Boulogne. He later died from his injuries on April 17^th 1917. He is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
