Aubrey George Wood

Corporal, Royal Engineers (Motorcyclist Section)

Aubrey George Wood was a student at Alleyn’s until 1906 and lived at 286 Upland Road, East Dulwich with his parents, George and Elizabeth, during this time. After the outbreak of the First World War, he decided to join the war effort and was attached to the Royal Engineers after being found fit for service. During his time with the Royal Engineers, Aubrey saw service overseas as part of one of the regiment’s Signaller battalion and was responsible for providing communications and support during a number of British operations. In April 1916, he transferred to the Motorcyclist Section of the Royal Engineers and received a promotion to Corporal. Just a month after this, Aubrey was reprimanded after being caught attempting to leave camp with a number of blankets after 9.10pm. Fortunately, he manged to avoid losing his new rank and he continued to serve with the MC section until the end of the war.
