Donald Campbell Wood was a student at Alleyn’s until 1911 and lived at 38 Buckleigh Road, Streatham. He joined the war effort as part of the London Regiment (London Scottish) and served overseas on the Western Front as a Private. In 1916, he was serving in France during the Battle of the Somme and was part of the attacking forces on the first day of the operation. Shortly after going over the top on July 1st, Donald was wounded in action and he later died of the injuries he received on July 18th 1916. His parents, Walter and Mary, were informed of his death shortly afterwards. Donald is buried at Netley Military Cemetery, Hants.
