Alfred N. Woolston

Alfred N. Woolston lived at 151 Woodware Road, East Dulwich with his parents, Alfred and Phoebe, and his brother, Norman. He was a student at Alleyn’s until 1913 and had some previous military experience from his time in the Imperial Cadet Yeomanry. Alfred joined the war effort in June 1915 as part of the Honourable Artillery Company and served overseas with the HAC in France from October 1915 to January 1917. As part of the British Artillery, he played a major role in providing the necessary firepower to support the infantry in major British operations. Alfred was a dedicated and reliable soldier and these qualities saw him promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal on 25^th January 1917. Unfortunately, Alfred was only able to serve with this new rank for six days as he was killed in action on 31^st January. After the end of the war, his family were sent the 1914-15 Star on his behalf.
